Advances in Wearable Antennas and RFID-enabled Smart Systems for Biomedical Applications

Nowadays wearable antennas and RFID-enabled smart devices with sensing and reasoning capabilities play a crucial role in biomedical contexts like heath monitoring, physical wellness, rehabilitation, ambient assisted living, telemedicine and many other emerging body-centric applications. To fulfill stringent requirements in terms of conformability, flexibility, and adaptability, while preserving efficiency, reliability, and robustness, the design of wearable antennas as well as RFID-enabled pervasive smart systems for biomedical applications is becoming a challenging and widespread task. In this scenario, the introduction of novel bio-compatible materials, realization techniques, and design strategies empowers the definition of well-performing wearable systems and customized RFID-oriented smart devices. Conductive fabrics, flexible 3D printed substrates, conductive nano-particle silver inks, as well as copper and textile tapes, are just few examples of innovative materials that help in realizing confortable wearable devices and pervasive RFID sensing systems for biomedical applications.

The aim of this focused Special Session is to bring together experts all over the word so to stimulate a discussion around this important and topical scientific challenge.
